Petrol Hike announcement causes rush for gas...

By 6pm, my phone had already been flooded by SMS from concerned friends and family of the bloody increase in petrol. At 4, I was still living in denial, not believing that the price of petrol can actually increase to about 2.70.

So at 6 something I dropped by the next Shell Station I could see, and filled up an empty tank with VPower... after why not, its time to give the car a little treat which might not come by anytime soon after such drastic price increases.

By brother had already smsed me that the news has confirmed the price increase. So I picked up Sayang had dinner, and traffic was unusually bad tonight. Jams caused by inconsiderate drivers wanting to fill up RM20 of their already full tank. Additionally, Klang Valley experienced some heavy downpours, causing flash floods , here there and everywhere ....

We left MidValley and had to crawl through this congestion... and for what ????

Because everyone's gonna fill up their tanks, last minute.

Everyone petrol station we passed by had a line. The queue was long but most people were just waiting for their turn to fill up. After all, we get to save RM50 - RM60 per full tank once....

Even lorries, did not want to miss out. This scene almost reminds me of a rave party.. everyone's want to have some...

Although our government will always tell us, our Petrol price is still one of the lowest in the world, we ought to also remind ourselves we also earn the least amount of money. Just look at our neighbours, Singapore.... petrol price increase but still no feel only....

Mahai, surely now we have to change our lifestyles jo... From RM1.92 to Rm2.70.... Maybe more people will set up blogs and write shit stuff about the government....

Public Bank's Customer Service Department

In case you were wondering how come I have not been blogging as much as before, here is one reason why. I tried to call Public Bank's Hire Purchase Department's number after I have settled my car loan with them. So on the settlement receipt, our nice Public Bank staff nicely chopped their phone number so that I could come and collect the release letter some time later.

Ok la, so I called this number: 03 2272 3833 ( their so called Hunting Line). I wonder what the f$%k they hunt, because it just rings and rings and rings. You are very welcome to try it yourselves, if you don't believe. No one picks up this number, some more someone told me, its their hunting line......

So I called their Hire Purchase number - 1 800 88 1319. Very promptly some guy picked up. I told him what I wanted to do, he apologised and said,

PB HP: different branch sir, this one Jalan Ampang.
ME: OK. so what number I call sir ?
PB HP: You can call their hunting line...
ME: But I called the blardy number whole f@#$ing day liao....
PB HP : oh actually that number got some problem with their PABX System, so why not like this MR Wong, you call this number, 03 2273 9866 / 03 2272 6366, its the direct line to their manager's office.
ME: ok thank you, you are so helpful.

SO I called 2273 9866 - after a few tries, of 1 minute ringing someone picks up.

PBHP Manager's Direct Line: HarLO , Publick Bank!!
Me: Oh pubic bank hire purchase ah ?
PBHP Manager's Direct Line: Yes......
ME: I am looking for Ms.****** who handled my settlement la, so I want to know if my release letter is ready or not, so I called this number whole blardy day and no one picks up.
PBHP Manager's Direct Line: Aiyoh sir, this one ah, is Manager's Direct Line la sir. She is across from the other hall la, I can't pass the line from here. Like this la sir, why don't you leave a message I pass it to her. (FYI: its 130pm, I have already tried half a f$#king day trying to reach this lady).
ME: ok I am Mr Wong, I need to know if my letter is ready. Call me back at 012- XXX 6769.
PBHP Manager's Direct Line: Why don't you also give me your account number sir, so she can do something before she calls you.
Me: ok, my account number is ..................
PBHP Manager's Direct Line: OK thank you sir. She will call you back in perhaps about 15 minutes...
Me: Thanks I will be waiting...

330 pm : Sayang reminded me to call Pubic Bank...

Ok so I called back that number 03 2272 3833 for a few times got fed up and used the manager's direct line again. The lady didnt call me back, not sure if the message was passed or not. This time around, another person answered and told me its the manager's direct line, but then, I have to use that because so far , those numbers are the only ones that reaches someone in that building. Nia sing....... so this other person told me, to reach Ms ***** you have to call these numbers.... 03 2274 5031/ 5026 / 5042... whoa niama, 3 numbers wo... ok lo.

I called 5031 with my handphone, and 5026 with my office phone. Nobody fu%^ing answers the phone around here. PABX spoiled, an image of the telephonist, knitting sweater, appeared in head.... mahems....

After 4 tries, I called the Manager's Direct Line and complained. Someone offered to pass the message again, as they can't pass the line from where they are (the question is, why the F&^K can't they pass the line ?) . I repeat the story again, told him I settled, need release letter.

So I wanted to complain to someone, then I looked up Pubick Bank's website again. Found this number. 1 800 88 8318, it says there, Public Bank Customer Service Department.

Surely make you vomit blood wan. You listen to the call above and you will know what I mean..
Want to complain oso kenot... cis !!

But in the end, by 430 I got a call from 2274 5031 and the lady told me to come collect my release letter. So remember, this, Public Bank's service is probably just as bad as Maybanks... so choose your banks wisely.....

Ching Chong Lady Strikes back

Sometime ago , we read on Kenny Siau's blog, he got a call from some ching chong lady, supposedly a scam. A few weeks back Sayang also kena, but luckilly for her, since she can't understand any Mandarin, her conversation did not carry on for long. While my call didn't begin with, " congratulations, you won't 240 thousand upyourass dollars , and so on and so forth.!!", I thought it be fun if we recorded it just in case, it came to that...

Yesterday another Ching Chong lady, called me up, UNKNOWN CALLER, appeared. I picked up and the lady spoke Mandarin to me. WTF !! I told her, me no understand.....

NOT very clear... I don't understand, and when I try to communicate with them in cantonese, she gave up (hopefully she vomits blood too), and passed it to another ching chong lady who speaks my dialect.

To Listen to the Snippet click here: ChingChongLady Phone Conversation
You can download the mp3 file here

I hope this is not the beginning of a scam where they call you up on pretense of something else and ask for consent to register your details into a database. In the end I have requested not to be registered.

Dec 02 , Genting Arena of Stars
Got somekind of exibition for electronic gadgets right (from what I gather from that phone conversation?)
Listen for the password, listen for the name, and please feel free to attend the event... wakakaka

Coffee and Cake @ Kuta Cafe, Mount Coo-tha, Brisbane

Oh dear, since we've been back, it just seem as if no work was done while I was away, and I have a pile of work on the table to attend to. So just a quick blog post.

It was our first day in Brisbane, which is about 45 minutes drive from Gold Coast. That night we came all the way up to Mount Coo-tha, a lookout location for Brisbane. The view is definitely breathtaking to say the least.

The temperature was alright, but the wind was just unbearable, definitely made the coffee taste a lot better than it should. Brisbane had pretty good weather, say about 24C during the day and by night it goes to around 18C ( so nice !!). But up on the hill the wind was quite strong and wasn't dressed up to tahan the wind... so cold !!

The cake was okay. We ordered it because its called Ebony & Ibory.. hmmm.. its described as a cake that has white and black chocolate. Sounded very muhibbah, thats why I chosed that cake. No complains really, and shared this with Sayang.

Now we ordered the two types of coffee. This is our first cup of real proper coffee we had. Capuccino on the left, and Latte on the right. They both tasted just rather normal and not really worth writing more about it.

Next to this Cafe, you can find a Summit Restaurant , which probably serves real food.

Kuta Cafe is open from 7am - 11pm daily and closes at Midnight on Weekends.
You might not come up here for the food, but the view is definitely breathtaking, and if the weather is cold, you will definitely appreciate a cup of Hot Coffee or Chocolate.

Heroes Season2 Resumes September 24 2007

The last scenes as I remembered it , were the two Petrelli brothers, exploding somewhere in Mid Air, and with Hiro having travelled back in time to Medieval Japan. Since then I have been waiting for Heroes Season 2 to come back. Gotta say, have not been hooked to a TV series, since ST: TNG. Although I love Supernatural, it just doesn't come close. And just when I thought Traveller was going to fill the void, until Heroes returns for a new season, they cancelled the series...

Look heres a Preview of what is to come: Heroes Generations..

Watch out for the Date : September 24th 2007. Your lives will never be the same again..

Namewee's New Video is out - Cutegirl

If anyone's been listening to the radio or reading the national papers, you would have heard of this Malaysian kid studying abroad in Taiwan, who allegedly insulted our Country. I only just recently went up to Youtube to watch the entire video and I thought, the mofo is quite funny, and he got his facts quite right about most of the stuff he was rapping about..

[Not: decided not to put that video up , coz sked the LAW might take action but I saw the one with english subtitles !! ]
I gotta say, he made a big mistake by making insinuating remarks about the "Azan". Nevertheless, he has now moved on , after making his video apology also on Youtube, I just saw this new video clip of his.

I think this song is called , Cute Girl ( Ke-Ai de Nui Hai) - soli my mandalin not so powder

So what do you think ? This fler is talented right ?
I think he is talented, but unfortunately stupid. Anyways, good luck to NameWee, should the Malaysian law decide to take further action.

DVD seller making a Name for himself !!

pic from Thestar

This guy must be the most famous guy on Astro today. Forget about Raja Lawak, he will always succeed in getting me into stiches everytime his advertisment comes on TV. Sure enough, when we first saw the advertisment, the first question is, "Where did they find this Ah Beng from ..." hence theStar's article , "Ad guy Yuen is no Ah Beng".

Everyone I know , find the Ad very very funny. Definitely stand out from the rest. The only people who were not amused about it , are the actual DVD flers. WAKAKAKAKAKA !!! I heard one of them ranting about this AD too.. and he doesn't look very amused that ASTRO has made an AD making fun of the illegal trade... wakakakakak !! ROFL!!

anyway here's a video of the interview with Yuen...

City Hall bringing down structures in Jinjang...

Sad to say, one of my favourite Maggi Mee Goreng in Jinjang Selatan stall, has been closed down, and I believe it is the work of City Hall. The question is , do you know where this stall is now ? Although the stall has been demolished for like a few months already, I believe it is somehow related to the story below. I hope someone can tell me where if the stall has been relocated...

City Hall: Bring ’em down

metro@thestar.com.my

RESTAURANT operators in Jinjang Selatan and Jintang Utara new villages are crying foul over City Hall's order to dismantle the extensions to their shops.

Distraught: Liew says City Hall should explain why they wanted the structures down.
They received letters from City Hall since last month saying the extensions were illegal and must be dismantled within two weeks from the dates of the letters or the authority would do it for them.

One of the shops, Lam Seng coffee shop, failed to escape the bulldozers on Aug 1, when his grace period expired.

Federal Territory MCA Youth deputy chairman Yee Poh Ping had earlier sent a letter to City Hall appealing for an extension of the grace period but was rejected.

“Most of the shops have been there for more than 60 years and the structures or canopies were installed to shield customers from rain or shine,” said Yee.

“The structures do not obstruct traffic. No one has ever complained about the canopies. Why does City Hall want to put restaurant operators in such hardship?

“They are only small timers and City Hall should not burden them further,” he added.

Yee said he could understand City Hall's intention to standardise extensions in the city's commercial areas, but such rulings should not be imposed on operators in new villages.

“City Hall should advise them to submit applications to legalise the extensions. Harsh action will result in them losing business, on top of that they have to spend money to rebuild the structures,” Yee said.

Lam Seng coffee shop operator Liew Chee Loy, 46, said City Hall should explain as to why they wanted the structures down.

“The extension has been there for years, even before I rented the shop five years ago. It doesn't obstruct traffic at all, why can't it stay there?” he asked, adding that he could not afford to build another structure and City Hall had not made clear what type of structures would be permitted.

Another operator, Shom Maan, 68, said he had forked out about RM3,500 to replace the zinc canopy with retractable plastic sheets for fear that City Hall would come and demolish the original structure.

“I still don't understand why we couldn't keep the original structures, these plastic sheets are not nice to look at either,” he said.

Harry Potter Boycott Saga Continues

For some reason or another, I am finding this quite amusing. The saga continues with more news reports from the Star Online. And I would like to highlight this from theStar Online

Original Story Here

JOHOR BARU: The price war in the sale of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows novel will benefit the people, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal.

“If there is a drop in price that the suppliers can afford, this is good and is not violating the law.

“If traders can reduce their prices and not sell at a loss, we should encourage this as it really benefits the people,” he said.

Carrefour and Tesco hypermarkets sparked a controversy when they sold the book at RM69.90 compared to RM109.90 by MPH, Popular and Times bookstores.

Mohd Shafie said high book prices have burdened the people.

“Since we are encouraging the public to read, to be well-informed and knowledgeable, it is important that books be sold at affordable prices,” he told reporters after opening the Gelang Patah Umno general meeting here yesterday.

In another report, apparently Borders sold out by noon. Wah not bad ah, sell at 109.90 also can sell out.. so the Bookstores' boycott alliance

I still don't quite understand why anyone would want to choose to buy a book for 109.90 when you can actually buy it at 69.90 somewhere else. Oh ya, with that additional RM40, you could buy yourself lots of YOGURT drinks, Ice Cream, your favorite potato snacks, and junk food on your way out. To add to that, most of these places gives you free parking, or convenient parking places.

Check out Britain's news, some independent bookstores are queing up to buy Harry Potter books from Tesco. Smart move for these guys.

More clips from the above link:

He said: “The magic of Harry Potter has gone mad. Nobody is making any money in the distribution of this book. Amazon, Tesco . . . are either breaking even or losing money.” Asked why he bothers to sell it, he said: “Because we are a community bookshop. We do it because we have a lot of fun. But I’m pleased this is the last one.”

Meanwhile I am going to leave this topic and go back to blogging about food. Watch this space though as I am very interested in how this story will turn out, after the Boycott Alliance meets up with Penguin Books.

I leave you with all these links:

More Reactions from The Harry Potty Saga in Malaysia

I am very surprised at the speed of how fast the internet gets its news. Anyway I read from International Herald Tribune, that the Malaysian Government has sided against those greedy multi chain bookstores. (read the story here)

So while surfing the internet for the latest updates on all this Harry Potty Boycotts and such, I found out that this news has already been updated on WIKIPEDIA.

So I still hope all of you who pre ordered, please try and get a refund from MPH & Popular.

Here check out Yahoo Answers on Why the Hypermarket can sell it so cheap ?

Refund !! Refund !!!

Updated 1:31am.

Check out William Soo's Blog on his rants about this Harry Potty Price War Thing. He has a very similar way of thinking regarding this price war thing which is happening only in Malaysia.

Where to buy HP7 if you are in East Malaysia

I woke up this morning and was pleasantly surprised that Sharon Bakar had left a comment on my post about Harry Potter. I read her post and opinions and went on to read the comments section. I found quite an interesting mix of opinions from various parties.

We have quite a few who kutuk the hypermarkets, some were happy that Tesco and Careffour is doing this, but some unfortunately for someone like Georgette Tan who is in Malaysia, tarak Hypermarket sana and according to her blog, many walkins were turned away at Popular Bookstore in Kuching.

So I did a few searches and found a few places where you can actually buy them (not at Tesco price la).

One of them at Lelong.com.my (pic below)

The from YTL Community Website
1) Barnes
2) Powell

By making it difficult for readers to get the book, doesn't mean other readers can't buy it. Imagine , Levis Jeans, Elvis Pressley records, Coke could still be found in Eastern Bloc countries in the 80s.

The four book chain stores who are boycotting this release should consider selling their books at a cheaper price. Then and again, WHY in UK people can get their books for 5 - 8 pounds, we Malaysians have to pay 17 pounds ? Doesn't make any bloody sense.

MPH and POPULAR should REFUND OUR MONEY

Harry Potter Launch !! MPH should refund our money !!

TheStar: Harry Potter and the Ugly Price War

Firstly , I would like to congratulate ardent fans of the Harry Potter series who managed to get their hands on the book today. Of course, with no thanks at all to the MPH Mega Chain of bookstores.

I feel sorry for my friends who actually took the time to actually pre-order the book from MPH , Popular, Borders, etc at the RRP. Unfortunately for thousands of them right, pre ordering means you have to pay up front , and collect the books when the stock arrives la.

So, news and flyers surfaced yesterday that the hypermarket chains were going to sell the Harry Potter book at 69.90 !!! Walane... so low, so value for money !! some more don't need to pre - order .

Read this: Where to buy Harry Potter7 ?
(pic from Wekna.com )

So what was MPH's Response ? From Potter Price war (3rd update)

MPH, Popular, Harris and Times at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur at 4pm announced that they would not sell Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in protest against Carrefour and Tesco selling the book at a hefty discount.

The recommended retail price of RM109.90 is being violated by hypermarkets advertising and selling it at RM69.90, the bookstores said.

The four chains, with a total of 100 outlets nationwide, said they were protesting the indiscriminate discount and wanted to show customers that they were not "blatantly profiteering" from them.

However, they said they would honour all pre-orders. "This means the book will no longer be available for sale at these stores nationwide from tomorrow (Saturday) following the worldwide release," MPH Bookstores chief operating officer Patricia Chen said. "

All events related to Harry Potter will be cancelled," she said.

My problem with this statement is this. MPH have no more reason to sell Harry Potter 7 at their outlets, because there won't be anymore people buying from them. First and foremost, most people has already pre-ordered. For those who have not, you can always go buy your copies at Careffour, and Tesco , and guess what, at a cheaper price !!!

Okay la, supposedly you pay extra 40 bucks ya, you will "stand a chance" get some harry potter premiums. Hallo !!! Your mugs are out of stock liao, what a gimmick man !! Ceh !

Here, this is what Tesco and Careffour flers have to say about this

When contacted, Carrefour Malaysia corporate communications and public relations manager Yuswanis Yusof said they wanted to provide the best for their customers.

She said besides selling groceries and other essential products, the hypermarket wanted to provide a chance for their customers to purchase the book at a lower price.

"It all depends on how one markets and promote its products," she added.

Tesco Malaysia division manager Janice Chan when contacted said they wanted to make sure their customers could read the book at a cheaper price.

"We are popular for selling products at a lower price, and books are no exception.

In other words they are implying maybe or perhaps MPH has been short changing their customers. According to Sayang, when the previous book was released, kanasai MPH said, only those who pre ordered can get their books. Then they always out of stock la.. stock belum sampai la - delaying tactics.

Maybe amongst those who kena frustated from MPH's delaying tactics and high price happen to work in TESCO and/or Careffour leh ? [ have you ever thought about that ?]

Maybe MPH should help the general public by lowering the price of their books. Please do not forget, we earn our pays in Ringgit Malaysia, not in Pounds / US Dollar. Books are expensive for us, and I believe if the general public can buy the book at RM69.90[jimat 40 puluh linggit !!], everyone would have jumped at the opportunity.

For those who PRE ORDERED, you should DEMAND for a REFUND !!!

Help !!! Rising Crime .. What can we do about it ?

When I called Sayang this morning, she told me something about the increasing crime rate in Kepong. She's been hearing stories of her neighbour's houses getting bulgarized, slashed , etc.. and I found such a story online from TheStar Online. Its obviously bugging her a bit, so I am just going to start the ball rolling by doing some searches online.

Increase in crime rates
Posted by: chui488
I don't know if my neighbours feel the same as I do, but the thought of living in fear daily - being burglarized/slashed/robbed is definitely not the way I want to live in the neighbourhood of Kepong Baru, KL. Thieves/burglars are more brave to assault their victims with parangs etc in broad daylight. These days they not only break into your houses - as a matter of fact, they walk into your houses as though they are your friends, and they walk out of your houses thru the front gate. The neighbours won't even think it is a robbery taking place, while the burglars walk away free. What has this neighbourhood become? Almost everyday, you will hear one house on Jalan so-and-so, got broken into at 4 am in the morning. Then next day, it is the back of Jalan so-and-so that house got broken into. Who do we turn to at times like this? Yes, there is lots of anguish and frustrations but what can we do to ensure that this place is a safer place for OUR children to live in? Don't anybody care anymore? What is our MP Kepong doing about it to make it a safer place for us to live in? The crime rates has been increasing - does someone else has to die in another robbery/snatch theft before real action is being taken? There are too many access roads being opened making it easier for the getaway. Well, it is only 20 mins drive then you are already on LDP. I know that is this Visit Malaysia Year but that does not mean I welcome crime. Help us to live in a 0% crime environment. I definitely want my children to live in a safe and crime free environment.
Taken from : The Star Online

She sounded quite concerned about her wellbeing, and is quite worried for the safety of her parents. What can 2 ladies and One man do ?

My initial reaction was to take up arms, be it our own Parangs, Guns, Spears, Bows & Arrows. Why do that ? To protect ourselves. As we know the Polis can't do shit about it until you get robbed. Crime prevention is not under the jurisdiction of the PDRM ( or is it ?). You can't lodge a report for feeling scared, or afraid that some joker might walk into your house and take your things. You can try, but the police officer will tell you to go home and watch more CSI instead. So the Polis, is not someone you can turn to. [so I suppose they wont be doing that ]

Crime prevention is not solely the responsibility of just the Police Force. We as residents of our respective housing estates, or districts should lend a helping in making our houses a safer place to be. Have you spoken to your Local Resident's Association , Rukun Tetangga, or your MP ? Does it exist ?

So far I found a few websites, namely Nwatch, USJ, PJNET, KK Community that actually has got an online presence and is actively involved in crime prevention. What about Kepong and Cheras ? Don't seem to be able to find any links regarding Kepong and Cheras....

You probably don't read too much of these stories online or on our local newspapers, unless someone got shot, or died from a snatch thief. I am not sure why, but perhaps or maybe the newspaper editors find these items not news worthy, or they are not in the business of telling the public how unsafe it is for us to live in KL.

A family house broken into in Cheras

I recently had a first hand account, of my friend , whose house was broken into. It happened just last month, when their house was broken into by 3 chinese guys ( ya chinese also in the business, not only Indons). One of those jokers were caught, clobbered up by his wife, and later tied up. Unfortunately the other 2 guys escaped with quite a bit of stuff, handphones, jewellery, etc.

I did not understand why that 1 guy was caught. Was he trying to hurt someone ? The story goes like this:

This mofo was trying to get into one of the rooms, where his son and daughter in law and grand kid was locked up inside (obviously to keep the kid safe la). This joker don't know for what reason, was trying to knock the door down. He managed to break the door knob and was trying to push his way into the room. He managed to get in halfway as his son pushed the door in and pinned him down. My friends wife, got a wrench and started clobbering the mofo. They had to clobber him until he was unconscious, before they tied him up.

The family was obviously upset for the past one month.

So WHAT's UP ?

These stories keep cropping up lately. So what can we do about this ? I really have no idea how to counter this man... I mean how prepared can we be, to face a situation when this jokers decide to walk into your house ?

Shoot to Kill ?
Chop his fucking hands off ?
Chop his cock off and feed to your dog ?
or Invite them in and hope they don't hurt anyone ? [ any more ideas ? ]

In the meantime I am just going to read up a little bit more on some of these websites below.

Driving Academy - Learn to Drive in the Real World !!

It was one Friday night, after BC class in Uptown, we crossed the road to our cars before we decided what we wanted to eat. Then as we crossed the road, something caught our eye !! One Red SLK (small little kancil) was parked in the middle of the road, blocking traffic and all.

One can only assume that this car belonged to a driving instructor, who teaches people how to drive, and of course they also teach undang undang jalan raya, and to teach their students to abide by traffic laws, right ?

So, that car belonged to Metro Driving Academy !!!! I hope none of my friends learnt how to drive from this school. Even if so, I am sure your lesen is Kopi O punya...

Batu Talam Results

Victorious: Abdul Aziz and Najib being hoisted while (from left) Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein (partly hidden), Adnan, Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Wanita Umno deputy chief Datuk Shahrizat Abdul Jalil celebrate in Raub on Sunday. Pic from TheStar

Results:

Abdul Aziz Kiram (BN) - 6,276 votes
Ng Chee Pang (Ind) - 419 votes

Abdul Aziz Kiram wins by a majorityof 5,857 votes.

So as expected the BN candidate won this election without much problems. However so, as we could see from the media coverage, noticeably, everyone else, DPM, Datuk Sharizat, Khairy, and Hishamudin who gets most of the limelight of Abdul Aziz's victory.

Well good luck to En Abdul Aziz , and I hope you serve your friends in Raub well. And Ng Chee Pang, maybe now you should have spent the 5,000 bucks elsewhere, like opening a few crates of Hennessy or something like that, lol.

Now I get to drive up to Kuala Lipis without too much fanfare around this Kampung area.

The Chinese Founded America !!!

What would have happened if the Chinese decided to colonize the Americas ? To me it would be simple, just many sleepless nights trying to live with or without the Native Americans. That has just been what I been doing while everyone has been sleeping at night recently.

I have downloaded FreeCol, an opensource developed Game which is a Free version of Sid Meir's Civilization Series. With that I immersed myself into a world back in time, imagining short Chinese warriors (ala Gay Chou) fighting against Tall, Skinny Long Haired Native American warriors ( starring Lou Diamond Phillips). LMAO !!

It took me a while to get used to the interface, because it is less intuitive and is less informative as compared to the Pirated Sid Meir's Civilization II ( I think the last one I played was Civi2). The current Civi4 has got video requirements too high for my PC to play. So, while I was browsing for free software I could use on my office notebook, I delightedly found this title, FreeCol.

Instead of putting in English names like, Georgetown, or Ducth names like New York, I decided to name the New World, China. And to use names like Shanghai , Xian , and so forth. Its pretty fun and very very addictive.

At the end of the day, this is free software, the developers, hmm I do not believe they wrote this during their collective freetime I believe. So I won't complain so much, but its a warning, it will take many hours of your life away from gym, and sleep.

Summary: Graphics not so nice, abit like Civi1 , Gameplay very very similar. Of course if you buy Sid Meir's latest Civi Title , you probably have to buy a new PC to come with it.

Batu Talam By Elections

I have decided to analyze, because Ng Chee Pang the latest election candidate for he is only 22, decided he wants to contest. After analysis I will come up with a quick forecast of the election results.

DAP, Keadilan and PAS has all chickened out from this election as the Opposition Coaliton accused the EC of mal running our elections. Meanwhile the PM says they are cowards for running away from this election. Instead, one Ng Chee Pang, 22, decided he wants to contest as an independent candidate. Read more, I like to contest (BERNAMA) .

In the text, he said I felt lije contesting. Loose jo also nevermind, as long as I competed. Then who is funding your electoral campaigning ? My dad. Who happens to be Pahang DAP, Treasurer. Ironic eh ?

Who is the BN candidate ? He is Special Affairs Department field assistant Abdul Aziz Mat Kiram, 47 years old. I think this fellas son could be as old as Ng. Not much coverage could be found about En Abdul Aziz except that his face was on RTM1, RTM2 , TV3 , TV8 and TV9 , Astro Ria News, when DPM Najib accompanied by 10,000 BN supporters accompanied him for the nomimations.

The above are pics from the Electoral GroundZero. Its filled with UMNO and BN Flags. Big billboards stating, Thank you for voting for BN are aplenty and is clouting the roadside. I hope after the election those jokers still have the budget to clean the rubbish up.

BERNAMA has got a website up for this Batu Talam Elections

FORECAST

So after jalan jalan around ground zero and reading some news, as a substitute Political Analyst, I think the BN fella will win, by more than 3,000 majority, as DPM Najib wants it. Other wise, sia sueh la this BN fella. If BN don't get their 3000 majority of votes, it would signal a victory for young Mr Ng Chee Pang.

Good luck to both candidates.

QUESTIONS in my mind now :-

When applying for a job, they are always a minimum requirement for Education level; ie:
Must have minimum relevant University Education; Must be under 35 years of age; Must have 3-5 years of relevant experience. Even to apply for a job as a Mat Despatch alla professional Mat Rempit also you need SPM qualifications.

So these two candidates got what kind of Education ?

Johor and Pahang areas visited, luckilly not flooded

I set off to Batu Pahat on Tuesday morning to do our first installation of the EMS, Environmental Monitoring System. Name only canggih, but thats how the client likes to refer to it. Before going down , everyone was worried about the flooding situation and so forth. As such my installation for the Pahang site will be slightly delayed. But nevertheless, we were to finish installtion at the Johor site and I had to be back in Pahang ( appointment already made) on Friday morning.

On Tuesday, it rained the whole time we drove down, but the client was having meetings so he delayed us one day. So the next day, lucky for us, we were "blessed" with good weather, in other words, hot and sunny. Little did I noticed it until we got back to our hotel room, that I realized I got sun burnt, on my neck and face. Darn !! Kononnya good weather la.

FOOD

The first night we were on our own, and with a little research and talking to the locals, Briyani Gam, is famous here in this region. Had to try it, and found out there is this restaurant called, Beriani Power Restoran. Got directions to go find this place, but it took us 45 mins to finally find it. It was fragging closed at night. Mahai !! nobody told us they were not open at night. So we ended up having food at a mamak stall in town. Restoran Meriyiam, Nasi Kandar. But there weren't selling Nasi Kandar, Sup and Nasi Lemak saja ada !! Ok lor, ordered Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng and Zup Campur ( Ayam, Kambing , Daging Campur wo). Nasi Lemak wasn't good, because their sambal was burnt, like my face. But their Ayam Goreng, fuiyooo, punya la bes rasanya. Its along the main road in Pusat Bandar Batu Pahat, opposite of Maybank. Ayam Goreng panas... bes !!

When you drive to Batu Pahat, you have to try their APAMS and Putu Bamboo. Where ? After exiting the Air Hitam Toll Plaza, you will see very prominent signs put up by stalls there, at this moment there is only one and that stalls sells superb apams and putu bamboo. They are nice and cheap. On Thursday, it rained in the morning, until the evening , non stop. We rushed to finish installation and testing of our equipment before we headed back home. All wet and soggy, we began our journey home after a quick change of clothes. As we reached Air Hitam town we stopped by a place for lunch. Thats where we saw a goreng pisang stall there. Pisang Tanduk prominently displayed on the booth. I call them Pisang XXX , why ah, you go figure out yourself la. The Pisang goreng was superb. This one from Air Hitam town. Go for the pisang tanduks, the huge ones, because they are very sweet and aromatic.

After lunch we left in a hurry. It has been raining the whole entire day , as far as we were concerned. The little lake where we installed the equipment recorded a 0.6M rise in level. I had to be in Kuala Lipis the same night.

The black marking is the road up to Kuala Lipis. Its via Bentong, Raub, Benta and then you will finally reach Kuala Lipis. Siti Town they call it. Spent the night day before I began on another crazy day, of driving up to Kuala Medang ( Felda ), visit 2 sites. From there we had to drive back down to Kuala Lipis en route to Jerantut. Red markings , the Ikan Patin Trail I call it. Why Ikan Patin ? Simple, you drop by any Malay stall, you are surely to find Ikan Patin sold. My favourite style too, Patin masak Tempoyak ... yummy.. The kicks come after eating the dish... when you begin passing gas !! hehehe

On the way down to Jerantut we were met with a long queue. Wondering what the commotion was , I took a slow stroll to see what was happening. It is not common for this alternative trunk road to be congested like this. Then we saw this. It had some sort of a fiesta feel to this.

Some smart ass decided to set up stall to sell his Petais. So this is the first time I had so much company driving on this road to Jerantut. Lucky for us, all this lasted no more than 15 minutes before we began to inch our way through. The Crane decided to stop rescuing for awhile so that the kilometer long queue could move.

We then drove up to the Sg Tembeling area, pretty much very close to Kuala Tahan. Here if you are lucky, you could catch yourself Ikan Kelah. Apparently this fish has been fished out to almost extinct. It is an endangered species now, however so, the Wildlife department has set up many Kelah Sanctuaries in Taman Negara's rivers. This because Ikan Kelah can not survive in dirty or turbid waters in the wild. Therefore, the only place it could survive is in National Parks like Taman Negara, where the river is clean.

So I came back via Jerantut - Temerloh highway to the New EastCoast Expresway. Nice drive back home and it took me only about 2.5 hours to reach home from Jerantut.

Basically I have never seen so much rain before, I mean in KL everything seems to just pour out and stops. In Johor it just never seems to stop. Luckilly there were no floods at the places where I visited. Even for the Pahang rivers, they did not seem to be as high as when they were in December.
